Abstract
A lot of morphometric research has been done so far, using the actual skull of ancient and modern Koreans. However, the research using three-dimensional CT images of modern Koreans is rare. The purpose of this study is to collect the data available for the clinical use in the utilizing the post-mortem computed tomography (PMCT) images of modern Koreans and morphometric analysis of the shape of the orbit and cranium of Koreans. Among the cadavers that arrived in the National Forensic Service Seoul Institute from March 2017 to September 2018 for the purpose of autopsy, 180 male and female cadavers were used. The average values of the orbits index by sex were 89.1¡¾5.8% for left and 88.9¡¾6.1% for right of the male; 91.1¡¾4.4% for left and 91.2¡¾4.8% for right of the female. The frequency of hypsiconch (80.2%) was the highest in orbital shape. There was no statistical difference between the right and the left orbital index (p>0.05). The orbital index of male were smaller than that of female (p<0.05). The average values of the cranial index were 85.4¡¾4.8% of the male; 85.0¡¾4.5% of the female and statistically, there was no significant difference between male and female (p>0.05). The frequency of hyperbrachycranic (36.1%) was the highest in cranial shape. In this study, morphometric analysis of the orbital and cranial shape of Koreans using three-dimensional skull CT images of modern Koreans provided Korean anthropological data for clinical application.
